HTML info shows up, but not Web form controls

I created ASP.NET applications on a server with Windows 2000 server and FrontPage Server Extensions. In Visual Studio .NET, I have added HTML controls and then Web Form controls to a Web form. When I select build and view in browser only, the HTML information shows up, but not the Web Form controls. Is there something wrong with my server setup or with settings in Visual Studio? I know it shouldn't be this difficult.
Maybe ASP.NET is not properly registered on the server. Go to the .NET instalation folder inside C:Windows, and run "aspnet_regiis /i", which forces a reinstall of the ASP.NET extension on all IIS Web sites.
