Those readers who've been following my Visual Studio developer tips will remember me having mentioned Dundas Gauge in numerous tips (I introduced it in June 2005, mentioned it again in March 2006, and picked it as one of my Five Top .NET Tools from 2006).

Well, here it comes again as the company released a new version of this product in April 2007 -- namely Dundas Gauge for .NET 2.0. I should hasten to add that the 2.0 in this case applies to the Dundas Gauge version, not to the .NET Framework version supported. As long as your installation of Visual Studio 2005 has the extensions for .NET Framework 3.0 installed, this latest version of Dundas Gauge will happily work with .NET 3.0, as well as with earlier versions.

For those who didn't see those earlier tips, here's a capsule summary of Dundas Gauge for .NET: It's a package designed to work with WinForms and ASP.NET to deliver a wide range of data visualizations in the form of gauges.

Essentially, you get the ability to pick up and display data through all kinds of circular gauges, dials and knobs, horizontal and vertical linear gauges, numeric read-outs, and interactive gauges in any of these styles that can incorporate user input in

to their displays. A Gauge Wizard makes it easy to select the type of gauge you wish to use, associate a specific look and feel, assign legends and labels, and pick data input streams for display. The results are polished and attractive and great for building dashboards and other application data displays.

What's new in Dundas Gauge for .NET 2.0 includes the following:

Lots of new appearance styles are also available in this new version as well, which offers some nice upgrades from the previous 1.6 version. Please note that Ajax features (interactive gauges and callback related functionality) work only with ASP.NET and not in the Windows Forms environment.

As with previous versions, Dundas Gauge costs $699 (plus $349 for a yearly update/upgrade subscription; subscription renewal on earlier versions gets you this one as part of the deal). Check out the Dundas Gauge for .NET product page for more details and purchase information.
