Web pages that take a long time to refresh are going out of style, especially if the vast majority of the information on the page does not change. One remedy for this is Web Parts, which was introduced in ASP.NET 2.0. A page built using Web Parts consists of sections, or parts, that communicate with the server independently, improving both performance and the user experience.

ASP.NET 2.0 Web Parts in Action by Darren Neimke follows the process of developing a Web application with Web Parts from design to deployment. The author also provides an introduction to the ASP.NET AJAX Library and gives a how-to for building a gadget to Live.com, Microsoft's customizable site for news, search, shopping and social networking.

Chapter 9, Portal Management, examines testing and deployment, which are the final two phases of the software development life cycle and which ensure that an application can be managed and maintained once it is finished. Neimke talks about several ways "To keep an eye on the health of your code," such as code instrumentation, health monitoring and personalization queries.
