More on PDF manipulation in the .NET environment

On August 10, my tip entitled "Working with PDFs in a .NET environment" appeared. By that month's end, it had generated more e-mail than just about anything else I've written on .NET. It seems that lots of readers are passionate about their favorite PDF tools. Their reactions to seeing them left out of my first piece ranged all the way from amused to miffed, with several points on the continuum between those two poles also covered.

Thus, I'm not sure if this follow-up piece is to expiate my sins of omission, or to help complete the record on the subject of PDF tools for the .NET environment. But however you choose to look at this addition, rest assured that I looked into each and every one of the suggestions or demands for inclusion that came my way and picked all those that appeared to offer useful functionality, good value, or some combination of those ingredients.

For lack of better organization, I present these entries in alphabetical order, with vendor or reseller names, product names, brief descriptions and Web pointers for each one:

• Blue-Pacific.com: ASP Turbine 7, generates PDF Documents and Flash Rich Media from ASP and ASP.NET scripts ($655 for PDF only, higher for Flash or Flash & PDF; volume discounts available).
• ComponentSource.com: Directory of PDF components for resale (see especially ABC pdf .NET; over 110 items listed, of which at least a dozen are of direct, relevant interest to developers)
• Dynamicpdf.com: Dynamic PDF Generator.NET permits creation of PDF documents from dynamic data in a variety of formats ($99 and up, higher prices for development and server use, annual maintenance fees apply).
• Ecrion.com: XF Rendering Server 2003, works with XSL-FO and SVG to produce customized outputs in many formats, including PDF, .NET API is available ($995, volume discounts available).
• PDFTron.com: PDFNet: a PDF library that works with VS.NET and all .NET programming languages ($99 to $900 depending on read, write and edit capabilities).
• Siberix.com: Siberix PDF Library, C# component for .NET for creating PDF files that includes multiple methods for formatting text, creating complex layouts, drawing figures and paths, inserting images, and so forth ($299 and up ...
