- Expression Interactive Designer is Microsoft's new tool for adding 3D images and multimedia content to an application's user interface, or UI. The product complements both Microsoft's existing application development tool, Visual Studio 2005 and the tools in the upcoming .NET 3.0, which allows for better collaboration among the designers and developers who are building an application.
Expression Interactive Designer is one of three products in Microsoft's Expression suite of tools for Web designers. The other tools are the Expression Graphic Designer, which creates both vector and bitmap images for use in applications, and the Expression Web Designer, which lets designers add elements such as cascading style sheets to Web applications. The Expression suite, which is due for a general release in 2006, is viewed by many as Microsoft's response to Adobe's popular Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash graphic design products.
Many developers refer to Expression Interactive Designer by its code name, Sparkle.
