Which comes first--where to live or where to work? For: Jan 29 - Feb 12 2001
Thinking about changing jobs and places to live is like trying to answer the question of the chicken and the egg. It is hard to tell which you should do first. Do you find the job of your dreams and then research the living conditions in that area, or do you pick an area first and then look for jobs there? Either way, you need good information about both the job and the locale. Quality of life components vary with the individual and their circumstances, but that great, new position can turn into a nightmare due to factors such as a poor school system and the high cost of housing. You need to assess whether the new city or region that goes with it will be as good a fit for you, as is the new position itself. This week we collected a number of guides that provide you with the opinions of other professionals and the tools to screen the best cities for yourself. These will give you the resources you need regardless of whether you are in the chicken or the egg position.
