These products are aimed at Visual Basic, Visual Studio and .NET developers. This month's 12 featured products include several WPF, Ajax and Silverlight-ready components, a SWF-to-XAML converter and a handful of lifecycle management tools. Category: Components and Controls Thanks to Silverlight, the AOL Social Mail Gadget squeezes multiple animations into a 130-pixel-wide gadget in the Windows Vista sidebar. Oh, and it was developed in four weeks. Blendables Essentials is a set of custom WPF controls that plug into the Expression Blend tool. The XAML code-behind files can also be opened in Visual Studio. The company's NetAdvantage for WPF tool now supports Visual Studio 2008. In addition, plans were announced to support Web development frameworks like ASP.NET AJAX and Silverlight. The company's Studio Enterprise 2007 now supports Ribbon interfaces for applications modeled after Office 2007. Tools for WPF and Silverlight are on the way as well. Category: Database Tools
Data Dynamics Reports draws data from a variety of sources, including .NET objects, and brings it into Web and WinForms applications. Category: Developer Life Cycle Tools Parasoft's .TEST product now includes a static analysis tool called the Bug Detective, which spots potential SQL injections, resource leaks and NullReferenceExceptions. The company has updated Vault, its version control tool, and released an application lifecycle management product, Fortress, built on top of Vault. Both support .NET and Eclipse. The latest release from JetBrains, dotTrace Profiler 3.0, offers an expanded arsenal of memory and performance profiling tools and is prepared to handle many more profiling scenarios. Category: Tools and Platforms Electric Rain's Harmony will convert simple Flash SWF files to XAML files for use in Silverlight and Windows Presentation Foundation. Quest Software's Development Studio for SharePoint provides 15 Web parts, configurators and templates for use in building SharePoint 2003 and 2007 applications. Strangeloop's AppScaler sits between application servers and network load balancers as a means of boosting the performance of ASP.NET applications.
