Still warm after its long incubation, Visual Studio 2005 takes center stage at this year's VSLive! show in San Francisco. Visual Basic 9, released as a community technical preview earlier this month, is also expected to garner some attention.
The Microsoft development group has devoted the entire first day of the show, Jan. 30, to VS 2005 and the various Windows, Web and Office development tools it contains. Soma Somasegar, corporate vice president, Developer Division, will focus on VS 2005's new features in the day's keynote. After that, MS figures such as Jay Schmelzer, Jay Roxe and Michael Leworthy will lead talks about SQL Server Express, Windows Forms and Visual Studio Team System, respectively.
Events over the next two days of VSLive! are divided into five distinct tracks -- ASP, Smart Clients, SQL, Software Architecture and Middleware. The ASP track, for example, offers chats on Ajax-style development and securing ASP.NET applications, while highlights of the Smart Client track include Visual Studio Tools for Office, Windows Forms and data management.
