Are you ready to rumble with Windows Workflow Foundation? (Sept. 21, 2005)
Among a slew announcements at last week's Microsoft Professional Developer's Conference (PDC) was word of Windows Workflow Foundation, a workflow engine, programming model and tool set for developers to build workflow-enabled applications. Workflow-enabled apps represent the next big step for middleware, as enterprises strive to streamline processes and work in "near-realtime."

SQL Server 2005 reaches final milestone (Sept. 15, 2005)
The final update before SQL Server 2005 goes out in November has some tweaks in the user interface and management tools.

Microsoft advances server plans (Sept. 15, 2005)
Developers got a CTP build of Longhorn Server with some goodies inside this week, but there's not much new on the feature front for IT pros.

VSTA to support macro recordings but will work with .NET objects (Sept. 15, 2005)
Microsoft continued to expand its array of Office tools with the surprise announcement of Visual Studio Tools for Applications. The tool has many similarities to Microsoft's VSTO Visual Studio Tools for Office product, but it's aimed at independent software vendors.

Microsoft adds built-in workflow (Sept. 14, 2005)
As Microsoft builds in workflow capabilities to its OS and some applications, it hopes to make life easier for IT administrators, who want better control over their apps.

Future VB version may integrate queries, programs (Sept. 14, 2005)
LINQ is a set of .NET Framework changes intended to simplify the developers' role in data query building. In effect, queries become integrated features of the VB language. It's being discussed for VB 9.

Gates shows what's in store for developers in 2006 (Sept. 13, 2005)
Updates of software frameworks and tools like Atlas and the newly introduced Language Integrated Guery highlighted BIll Gates' keynote address at the PDC. A public demo of Office 12 was also shown.

Office 12 changes radical and bold (Sept. 13, 2005)
