Description: Telerik updates its r.a.d. controls for ASP.NET every three months. The latest update, which the company presented at Tech Ed, includes a drag-and-drop Ajax framework.
Developers can Ajax-enable certain controls in an ASP.NET application, as opposed to the entire application, and apply the XMLHttpRequest to just those controls. "We have, we believe, a much better solution" than Microsoft's ASP.NET Atlas, said Svetozar Georgiev, CEO of Telerik. "Everything is just point and click."
Other additions to the ASP.NET product include a new rendering mechanism for navigation controls, which reduces HTML markup by 70%, and a QuickStart framework that demonstrates configurations and controls and offers documentation
Telerik has a similar product in the works for Windows Forms. Scheduled for beta release later this summer, r.a.d. controls for WinForms aims to bring the best practices of Windows Presentation Foundation development into client application.
The product features a CSS-like mechanism for controlling the appearance of elements, the ability to implement animation effects and strong visual viewers that can accommodate UI elements such as the Office 12 ribbon bar. "We offer a number of design-time capabilities so a developer can do a lot of configuration and visual implementations without writing any code," Georgiev said. "This is the tendency the customers are moving toward."
