The .NET 3.0 Roadshow, a Dr. Dobbs SD Event, was a six-city, two-day crash course in the .NET Framework 3.0. Speakers from the consultancy IDesign led sessions on Windows Communication Foundation, Windows Workflow Foundation, Windows CardSpace and Windows Presentation Foundation. SearchVB.com was there for the final leg of the roadshow, which was held in the Boston area.

Juval Lowy led several sessions on Windows Communication Foundation, Microsoft's tool for service-oriented programming. WCF provides "off-the-shelf plumbing" that lets developers spend more time on business logic.

Brian Noyes explained the inner workings of Windows Workflow Foundation, including its hosting model and its communication options. The ultimate goal is to graphically depict business processes in a way everyone can understand.

- An introduction to Windows CardSpace
Michele Leroux Bustamante offered a look inside Microsoft's new identity metasystem, in which users create "cards" containing personal information. It promises better security that the username and password method of identity management.
Windows Presentation Foundation |
- Building rich applications with WPF
Brian Noyes ended the event by discussing the pros and cons of Windows Presentation Foundation, Microsoft's upcoming UI framework. The "eye candy" is impressive, but the road to it can be bumpy, he said.
