.NET User Groups Learning Guide: Northeast

The birthplace of the American Revolution is also the home of some rather active .NET user groups -- not surprising, given the number of tech companies, and the proliferation of colleges, in the Greater Boston area. Nonetheless, let us know which ones we missed.

New England Visual Basic Pro User Group
The New England Visual Basic Professionals User Group meets to discuss Visual Basic .NET and related technologies such as SQL Server, Access, Mobile Development, Object Oriented Programming Web Services, and XML. A little classic VB comes up every once in a while. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at Microsoft's office at 201 Jones Road, Waltham.

Boston Area Visual Basic Learning User Group
The Greater Boston Visual Basic Learning User Group meets on the third Monday of the month at Microsoft's Waltham office. Meetings are free and open to the public.

Beantown .NET INETA User Group
This group meets monthly in downtown Boston, save for the summer. Recent topics of discussion include Windows Communication Foundation services, software as a service and Windows Presentation Foundation.

Vermont .NET aka VTdotNET
Regular meetings every couple of months at VT Tech, Williston Campus. The group has held court since 2002.

Connecticut Dot Net Users Group
Regular meetings are at the Microsoft Farmington, Conn. Office. There's a local jobs board as well.

NYC .NET Developer's Group
This group meets on the third Thursday of every month at Microsoft's offices in Midtown Manhattan. Members hail from the New York / New Jersey metro area.

CNY .NET Developer Group
This central New York group meets the first Wednesday of each month at New Horizons, a computer learning center in East Syracuse. Go to the "Past Meetings" link -- if that list of swag doesn't woo you to their meetings, then nothing will.

New Jersey .NET Users Group
.NET programmers in central New Jersey meet the second Thursday of the month at the Windsor Corporate Park Auditorium, 50 Millstone Road, East Windsor.

Pittsburgh .NET User Group
Founded in 2002, this group claims more than 800 members. It meets the second Tuesday of each month at either Microsoft's Pittsburgh office (30 Isabella St.) or at the Pittsburgh Technology Council (2000 Technology Drive).

philly.NET
This group meets monthly on Wednesday nights. Most meetings are at Microsoft's office in the Philadelphia suburb of Malvern, but occasionally the group does a PUB.NET night at the Great American Pub in Conshohocken.
