Will certification really translate into a higher salary at my current job?

Does certification really translate into a higher salary at your existing job? Or only if you change jobs?
That depends. When you get your certification, you'll definitely be more marketable. However, whether or not your employer will be willing to pay you what you could get elsewhere is an entirely different matter. You should discuss this with your employer to find out exactly what your certification would mean to him or her.
